Your favourite film star

It's your turn now. Think of your favourite film star. Look for information on the Internet, but in your composition you'll have to answer the questions one of your classmates asks to you through your headphones. Don't worry, I'll explain this activity in class.

Orlando Bloom

Now, read the composition a girl has written about Orlando Bloom.

My favourite film star
by Rachel

My favourite film star is Orlando Bloom. He has appeared in lots of really good films, such as Troy, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lord of the Rings.

He was born in England in 1977. His mother was an English teacher and his father was a South African lawyer.

At school Orlando loved drama and appeared in lots of school plays. He was also interested in art and photography. When he was eighteen he went to drama school. In 1998, he had a terrible accident when he fell from a window and broke his back. The doctors thought he would never walk again, but he has recovered completely. In his short life he has also broken his nose, an arm and both legs!

In 1999, he got his first big film role – as Legolas in Lord of the Rings. While they were filming in New Zealand, he went out with Jemma Kidd (sister of supermodel, Jodie), but they’ve split up since then. He’s lived in Los Angeles since 2001.

He’s been in lots of great films and I’m sure he’ll star in lots more!

Exciting Experiences by Hannah

Step 1: Read the following text. Use the dictionary on this blog to check the meaning of the words you don't know.

The most exciting thing I’ve ever done is go on an adventure holiday with my classmates. Last year we went to Wales and stayed in the mountains in an adventure centre. We went rock-climbing and kayaking. It was fantastic. We all slept in big tents and cooked our own food. It was the most exciting holiday I’ve ever had.

There are lots of interesting things that I’ve never done: I’ve never been skiing, and I’ve never been bungee jumping. I’d like to try them some time. But most of all, I’d like to try diving. I’ve been snorkelling before but I’ve never dived very deep. I’d like to go to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and see the amazing corals and fish that live there. Then I’d like to visit Sydney. I’ve never been there but I’ve heard that it’s a really exciting city.

Step 2: Copy the text below on a word document. Complete the gaps with the information you want, so that you create a text similar to the one above.

My bedroom

This is the text you read last week, and you did some gap-filling activities on the OUP Web.

My bedroom
By Ellen
My bedroom is quite big, but I have to share it with my older sister, Beth. The walls are white and the carpet is grey.
There are two beds, two desks, two chairs and a chest of drawers. My sister has got a computer on her desk, but she lets me use it sometimes. We’ve also got a CD player. There are a lot of posters on the walls. I support Arsenal and I’ve got pictures of my favourite players. My sister doesn’t like football, but she loves Brad Pitt, and she’s got a lot of photos of him.
I spend quite a lot of time in my bedroom. In the morning I have to make my bed and tidy the room, but I don’t have to clean it. Mum does that. In the evening I do my homework at my desk and then I sometimes listen to music.
I like the room, but I don’t like sharing. I’d like to have my own bedroom.

Now, you have to do something similar, but not so boring.
Why don't you do the same but about a famous person? I mean, become one of your favourite famous people and describe your house or your bedroom. Add some images and send it to my e-mail ( mdsanchez@fundacionsafa.es )

For instance, do you want to be Paris Hilton's dog and describe this bedroom?

Use your imagination... and some pictures from the Internet.
